Facial Eczma

Facial eczema is caused by the toxin (sporidesmin) produced by the fungus Pithomyces chartarum growing on pasture. The fungus grows in the dead litter at the base of the pasture in warm moist conditions. When ingested by cattle it damages the liver and bile ducts. This results in a drop of milk production, restlessness, seeking shade and skin inflammation issues.
